Geology's finest hour:

Gros Morne National Park

The passage of glaciers and forces of plate tectonics have shaped the Gros Morne landscape, creating mountains ten times older than the Rockies.  The park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, boasts stark rock formations with colorful mineral stains, hidden fjords, and dense forests.

BELOW, LEFT:  Legend has it that in bygone days a fisherman dropped his wife off at the grassy slope of a small cave to pick bakeapples.  For whatever reason, he simply failed to return for her, and she can still be seen today -- turned to stone as she stooped to find the tiny berries.

A lone kayaker paddels the quiet waters of Bonne Bay.

Hundreds of caves, tiny beaches, and waterfalls grace the shoreline.
